REVIEW FROM MUSIC WEB
A Festival Overture is another cracking British concert overture which would be happy in any anthology. In fact a dedicated record company could easily assemble a whole CD of Jacob overtures of this type. - Robert Barnett
FROM CD NOTES (Eric Wetherell)
There are no concessions to the relative inexperience of young players, though the writing for every instrument is wholly practical while still pushing the instrumentalists to their limits. The work has not only a youthful zest (the composer wrote it at the age of 68), but also a lengthy slower interlude that requires more lyrical playing.
