FIRST BROADCAST PERFORMANCE  11 May 1981, Thea King with Alun Francis and the English Chamber Orchestra (BBC)
NOTES  Arranged for clarinet and small wind band by Douglas Bostock

THE COMPOSER WROTE
The clarinet is a marvellous instrument for a composer to play about with. It has remarkably wide range of pitch and tone combined with fabulous agility in the hands of a master - or mistress. I owe Thea King thanks for vetting the solo part and also for livening up the metronome mark of the last movement to a speed I would hardly have dared to imagine on my own!

FROM CD NOTES (Charles Russo recording)
... three buoyant and lighthearted movements surrounding a brief but lovely slow movement. As with many composers, Jacob confessed to "falling victim" to the lure of the strings, which work so beautifully here with the clarinet.
