THE COMPOSER WROTE
The clarinet is a marvellous instrument for a composer to play about with. It has remarkably wide range of pitch and tone combined with fabulous agility in the hands of a master - or mistress. I owe Thea King thanks for vetting the solo part and also for livening up the metronome mark of the last movement to a speed I would hardly have dared to imagine on my own!
FROM CD NOTES (Charles Russo recording)
... three buoyant and lighthearted movements surrounding a brief but lovely slow movement. As with many composers, Jacob confessed to "falling victim" to the lure of the strings, which work so beautifully here with the clarinet.
